Testing An Old Favorite: MDSolarSciences Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-VB Sunscreen Review

Hello Field Bunnies! So this one was interesting . . . I remember really liking MDSolarScience's Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen when I first purchased it around 2 years ago. I still like it . . . just less. I think at this point I've just tried SO MANY sunscreens that my pickiness level is EXTREME. Yet it remains in my top 3 available at Sephora.

Claims: lightweight; water-resistant; cruelty free; non-comedogenic; good for sensitive skin

Ingredients (Good): green tea extract, cranberry extract, pomegranate extract, tetrahexydecyl acorbate

Ingredients (Bad): many types of silicone

what is ProVention R?? Just martketing nonsense.

Rating: SPF 50 Broad Spectrum

Price/Value: $30/1.7 fl. oz. or $42/4 fl. oz.; ($11-$17/fl. oz); reasonable

This is a 100% Mineral Sunscreen, with active ingredients 17% zinc oxide and 2% titanium dioxide.

It did NOT sting my eyes.

It did NOT smell.

It did NOT gather in my wrinkles.

YES, IT CAN LEAVE A WHITE CAST ON SKIN: it's a mild to moderate white cast, depending on the shade of your skin and how much you apply. On my skin tone it leaves an unnatural white cast.

It does NOT dry down, because there's no water in it. It does sheer out slightly within minutes of application, but the final finish on the skin is pale, sweaty, shiny, and it transfers off easily.

It does NOT look good under liquid foundation. It mixes with the foundation, making it look shiny and ruining the protective finish of the sunscreen. It works best under mineral foundation, tapped on and blended as minimally as possible. It still interferes slightly with the sunscreen film, and creates a full coverage look.

It does LAST THE WHOLE DAY if you do not transfer it off.

This LOOKS AND PERFORMS THE SAME on most people, because silicone is an occlusive. It will glide over texture on dry skin and contain sebum on oily skin.

It's good for sensitive skin, as long as you are not sensitive to silicones.
